Wayne Brady Chappelle

August 29th, 2008

There’s nothing like bringing two already great entertainers together. Even better when those two entertainers do it for the amusement of others - and best, when those two entertainers are comedians in their own right.

Such was the case of Wayne Brady and Dave Chappelle. Chappelle had done a sketch that made reference to Brady’s popularity among white viewers, with one of his cast members saying that “White people love Wayne Brady, because he makes Bryant Gumbel look like Malcolm X”. Chappelle later apologized to Brady over the phone and offered him a guest spot on the show.

And what a guest spot. Brady actually took over for Chappelle, albeit temporarily, when Chappelle “quit” the show. Most of the sketches thereafter contained Wayne Brady in an altogether un-Wayne Brady like format, complete with mass amounts of swearing and references back to the originally offensive sketch. (All in good fun, of course.) The result was one of the most popular Chappelle Show episodes to date.

Watch it if you can, the thing’s quite funny.
